DGFT joins hands with e-commerce giants to boost exports from local district hubs

DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) has launched an initiative called One District One Product (ODOP) to collaborate with e-commerce giants like Amazon to leverage certain districts of India as hubs to take the country's exports to a higher level. Such steps have been taken to enable small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to increase e-commerce exports of the country.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between Amazon and DGFT in this regard. Under this MoU, Amazon and DGFT will co-create capacity building sessions, trainings and workshops for MSMEs in districts selected by DGFT for the District Export Hub initiative as outlined in the Foreign Trade Policy 2023. According to the official statement, DGFT has initially selected 20 districts for capacity building and handholding sessions.
Apart from Amazon, other e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart/Walmart, E-Bay, Rivexa, Shopclues, Shiprocket, DHL Express etc. are also in discussion for similar cooperation in other districts of the country as Pattani Hub initiative of DGFT. The ODOP initiative aims to increase exports by connecting producers in rural and remote districts with global supply chains and enable exporters or MSMEs to sell their 'Made in India' products to international customers. 
The main objective of this collaboration is to put in place e-commerce platforms to help local manufacturers, exporters and MSMEs to reach 'Made in India' products to international buyers. E-commerce platforms are a focus for India's export growth. To mark the centre, the partnership is aligned with the Foreign Trade Policy 2023. 
The ministry said in a statement that the ODOP initiative complements DGFT's efforts to promote first-time exporters and MSME manufacturers towards achieving India's $1 trillion commodity export target by 2030, and within the $1 trillion, e-commerce export target of $200-300 billion, which is the overall The collaboration with Amazon has become more important towards the export drive.
Currently, the ODOP program has tied up with more than 35 brands across nearly 100 districts in India. According to this information the e-commerce platforms will identify districts across the country to conduct capacity-building and outreach activities in collaboration with regional authorities of DGFT. Export promotion activities, to educate MSMEs about e-commerce exports, will focus and enable them to sell products to customers in international markets apart from India. The capacity building session will also help MSMEs to learn about imaging, digital cataloguing, taxation.
