Govindabhog Rice

Gobindobhog is a type of rice mainly cultivated in Bardhaman, Hooghly, Nadia, Birbhum, Bankura districts of West Bengal. The rice derives its name from Govinda, which is another name of Lord Krishna. It is a short grain, white in colour aromatic and little sticky. It has a sweet and buttery flavour. Gobindobhog rice is so aromatic & flavorful that it is often served plain and steamed as an accompaniment with other Bengali curries, Dal etc. Gobindobhog was granted the geographical indication tag by the Government of India in 2017.
